You should plant summer vegetables in the Waikato from late October to November, once the risk of spring frost has completely passed. Heat-loving crops like tomatoes, capsicums, cucumbers, and sweetcorn thrive when planted directly into warm soil during these months.Desire to have a raised bed with a wide seated edge around it? Garden landscaping maintenance in New Zealand usually costs $50 to $120 per hour, depending on complexity, frequency, and the gardener's ability. Most professional gardeners charge around $80–$90 per hour. Blitz Home and Gardens have a competitive hourly rate.Lower labour costs often reflect less experience, less plant knowledge, lower-quality equipment or tools which may break down or not do the job so well costing you time, won't take time to clean and disinfect tools which can spread plant diseases, and lower efficiency and productivity due to lack of experience. Collectively, these may double or tripple the time to complete the job, costing you more. Higher labour costs should reflect better and ongoing OHS, practical training, greater weed and plant knowledge, quality sharp clean and disinfected tools, higher abilities, better time efficiency, and therefore a better outcome. Some large gardens require specialised services such as soft/hard landscaping, advanced pruning techniques, horticultural knowledge, or drainage work. Many providers offer fortnightly or monthly packages at fixed rates, often giving better value than one-off visits.Extra fees may apply for organic green waste, hard rubbish, or travel, depending on the provider. Blitz Home and Gardens reduce time on jobs when possible through GPS map routing, phone applications that clock in and out of jobs and break times, and show job descriptions. Blitz uses wheeled carts for efficiency in moving things around backyards, and has large organic disposal capacity that reduces trips to the dump. For complex trimming or new garden landscape installations, the price is higher. Note that there are added fees for disposal and products.Contact Joseph on 021-117-1110 with your full details to schedule in your property needs and a free Gardening maintenance quote.

Yes, we can tailor services to rental properties. We highly recommend adding them into your base rate i.e. regular lawn mowing so they don't become neglected and blow grass seed around the whole property making it an ongoing issue, particularly under trees. At minimum we recommend annual or for a tidier look all year bi-annual tree trimming to prevent very expensive tree reduction or felling costs in the future. A tidy property eases neighbour tensions and makes it easier to transition in new tenants at the best price.Contact Joseph today on 021-117-1110 to schedule in our services.

Organic green waste is an add-on cost, helping you declutter your yard without the smell and hassle. Blitz Home and Garden charges include fuel, loads of vehicle costs, and the dumping charges, at $17 per 250L for the first three wheelie bins of organics or heavy wool sack to the point of carry. For larger amounts we charge only $25m3, which is the going rate for some dumps. Hard Rubbish: Bamboo, flax, soil, noxious plants is $28m3.Note: We usually provide disposal as part of our Gardening or Tree work. We will need a photo and an access description if you only want only organics disposed of. Aged piles of lawn clippings will be deemed as soil and therefore a Hard Rubbish weight fee applies.

Pushing plants straight into raw clay leads to root rot. Blitz Home and Garden handles soil conditioning, contouring, and premium organic topsoil installation to guarantee plant survival. We break down the compact structure of Te Kowhai clay without altering the soil pH with gypsom, while mixing in quality compost which introduces essential nutrients and improves drainage. Avoid digging when the soil is completely wet to prevent further compaction.

At Blitz Home and Garden, we specialize in creating stunning landscapes. Our expert team offers tips on protecting your Hamilton garden from frost, ensuring your plants thrive year-round.Apply a thick layer of organic mulch around plant bases to retain soil heat.Cover sensitive plants with frost cloth before dusk on clear, cold nights.Move potted plants under a porch or patio shelter.Water the soil thoroughly in the morning, as damp soil holds more heat than dry soil.

The best time to plant winter vegetables in the Waikato region is between April and June, before the heavy winter frosts hit. Crops like broccoli, kale, spinach, and Brussels sprouts thrive when established early in Hamilton's damp, cool winter soil.

To prevent winter root rot during wet Waikato winters, build raised garden beds and mix coarse sand or fine gravel into your soil profile. Raising your planting area by 15–30cm ensures excess water drains away from plant roots during periods of heavy, continuous rainfall.

Consistent mulching with targeted treatments are key. Or professional-grade weed matting with pebbles. Save your back—let Blitz Home and Garden clear your overgrowth and install long-term weed prevention.

Mulching or adding bark retains critical soil moisture, regulates root temperature, and suffocates weed seeds. We supply and install premium coverage to keep your garden beds looking immaculately clean.

Clearing massive overgrowth requires the right tools and strategy. From residential garden tidy-ups to large commercial groundskeeping packages, we clear the chaos efficiently.

Swapping out debris-heavy trees for low, neat, structured plants keeps your yard looking premium with minimal effort. We curate plant palettes that offer year-round structure without creating an overgrown mess.

Incorporating hardy native grasses, ferns, and structural shrubs gives a beautiful, uniquely Kiwi aesthetic. We select eco-sourced varieties that are naturally adapted to thrive in local conditions.

Choosing plants with non-invasive root systems saves thousands in future repair bills. We ensure the right plant is placed in the right spot for long-term safety.

Removing messy, self-seeded trees and overgrown saplings instantly boosts street appeal and property value. Ask about our comprehensive pre-sale tree and garden tidy-up packages.

No, traditional snail bait is not safe for dogs, and ingestion can be fatal.Types of Snail Bait and Chemical SafetyMetaldehyde (typically green pellets): This chemical compound is highly toxic to domestic animals. Ingestion disrupts the nervous system, leading to severe clinical signs such as muscle tremors, seizures, elevated body temperature, and potential respiratory failure. There is no specific chemical antidote available for metaldehyde poisoning.Methiocarb (typically blue pellets): This carbamate pesticide is also classified as highly toxic. It acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, affecting the nervous system in a manner similar to metaldehyde, and can be fatal if consumed by pets.Iron Phosphate / Ferric Sodium EDTA (typically brown, yellow, or red pellets): These formulations are frequently marketed as safer or "pet-friendly" alternatives to traditional molluscicides. While they present a significantly lower risk of acute neurological toxicity compared to metaldehyde, they are not completely non-toxic. Ingestion of large quantities can result in severe gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, and potential iron toxicosis, which can impact internal organs. In any instance where ingestion of a pesticide or bait formulation by an animal is suspected, immediate evaluation by a qualified veterinarian or an animal poison control center is the standard medical recommendation to determine appropriate decontamination and treatment protocols.
